- What if there's an emergency while I'm away?
If your pet is ill or injured while you are away I will immediately take your pet to your specified vet practice for treatment. You will be notified immediately unless you have specifically asked me not to contact you while you are away.
If there's an emergency with your property e.g. burst water pipes, I will deal with the situation immediately e.g. locate stop-cock, call plumber etc. Then I would notify you about arranging remedial work.
- How do I book your services?
It is essential that I meet you and any animals that I will be caring for before a definite booking is made. I am happy to come to your home at a time that suits you for a free, no obligation visit where we can dicuss your requirements and you can ask me any questions you may have about my services. After this I will be happy to take a firm booking - please note a non-refundable 50% deposit is required to secure your booking.
- I will worry about my pets while I'm away. How will I know everything is OK?
I totally understand how worrying it can be to be apart from your beloved animal(s). If you are happy for me to contact you while you are away I will gladly text or email you once or twice per week to let you know that everything is OK.
- What happens if you're ill whilst caring for my pets?
If I have a mild illness then I will continue to care for your pets myself in the normal way. In the unlikely event that I'm bed-ridden or hospitalised I have backup arranged with my regular helpers, who are all experienced in animal care and are on standby to step in if necessary.
- Do you petsit outside of Haddenham?
Yes, I also cover the following areas: Wilburton, Aldreth, Sutton, Earith, Witcham, Mepal, Ely, Witchford, Wentworth, Stretham and Willingham. For any locations further afield please contact me.
- Are you insured for damage to my property, as well as for anything that might happen to my pet(s) while they are in your care?
As a member of NARP I am covered for third party/public liability risks. In the cause of normal pet welfare I would always advise that owners insure their pets. I cannot be held responsible for illnesses or loss through natural or unavoidable causes.
- Will you clean my house before I arrive home?
Your house will be left neat and tidy in the same condition in which you left it.
- My pet needs daily medication - is this a problem?
This is no problem at all. My working background is in veterinary nursing and as such I am familiar with medicating a variety of animals. So whatever your pet may require e.g. a diabetic cat that requires insulin injections, or a horse that requires daily Bute, I will ensure the medication is administered in line with your directions.
- Do you walk dogs in groups or off-lead?
I do not operate a pack walking service. This is because I believe that every animal deserves one-to-one attention out on their walks. Of course, if you have more than one dog and wish for your dogs to be walked together, this is no problem at all.
Initially I walk all dogs on lead only for safety reasons. Once I have been walking your dog for a number of walks and know that he/she has a reliable recall I will be happy to let your dog off the lead should you wish for me to do this.
- I need a petsitter at late notice. Can you help?
Hopefully I can. Please call me to discuss your requirements and if I can fit you in I will be more than happy to help.
- I am worried about having someone I don't know look after my home and pet(s). How can you reassure me?
There are many people across the country who offer pet sitting services, only some of these are registered. I am registered with NARP and abide by their Code of Practice and Terms and Conditions. Each member has to provide at least two references on application from people who have known them for a minimum of two years, are not related and can vouch for their trustworthiness, reliability and ability to care for pets. Each member also has to provide proof of their experience of pet care with details of all the pets that they have owned or cared for over the years. I hold professional qualifications in veterinary nursing, horse care and riding. I have been a pet owner all my life and a horse owner for the last eight years.
Please take a moment to read through the testimonials on this site. All of these comments are genuine feedback from previous customers. I also have a number of customers, past and present, who would be happy for you to call them for a reference, if you wish. Finally, I will arrange to meet you and your animals before beginning any assignment. This will afford you the opportunity to assess my suitability and hopefully to discover that I am someone that you can trust.
- Are you police checked?
Yes, I have official confirmation from the police that I have no criminal convictions or records. All registered helpers are also either police checked or have an enhanced disclosure from CRB.
